Dr. Marcin Dochnal’s functional approach

With over 65,000 patient visits and years of experience in hospitals and clinics across Europe, Dr. Marcin Dochnal is the first officaiy recognised chiropractor in Czechia and one of the most experienced chiropractors practising in Prague, Czechia today. His chiropractic care combines:

/ Precise spinal adjustments

Gonstead, Diversified, AK, SOT, Thompson, and Activator methods

/ Rehabilitative movement and therapeutic exercise

/ Licensed Radiologist from the UK

/ Manual therapy and soft tissue techniques

/ Lifestyle, nutrition, and stress management coaching

/ Collaboration with the Roots Team and local experts

This systems-based approach addresses not just the symptoms but the root causes of dysfunction, supporting long-term healing and whole-body balance.

Chiropractic is more than cracking joints

Chiropractic is a regulated, university-based profession that looks at how your spine, nervous system, and whole body cope with the stresses of daily life.

When these systems are under too much load, you might notice:

  • back or neck pain

  • headaches or migraines

  • stiffness, clicking, or limited movement

  • fatigue, poor sleep, or feeling “on edge” all the time

Rather than simply chasing pain, chiropractic care looks for the underlying mechanical and lifestyle factors that keep tissues irritated. Gentle, specific adjustments help restore normal joint motion, reduce muscle and nerve tension, and improve how your nervous system coordinates movement.

The result is a drug-free, hands-on approach aimed at long-term relief, better movement, and overall health—right here in Prague.

How to choose a chiropractor

Wherever you go—Roots or another clinic—ask:

  • Did they complete a full ECCE-accredited (or equivalent) chiropractic degree, not just short courses?

  • Do they take a complete history and physical examination before treating you?

  • Do they clearly explain findings, discuss risks, benefits, and options, and ask for informed consent?

  • Are they happy to collaborate with your GP, specialist, or physiotherapist when needed?

This is the level of training and transparency you should expect from a modern chiropractor in Prague or anywhere else.

proper chiropractic education & ECCE accreditation

Not everyone who “does adjustments” has the same background.

In Europe, a properly trained chiropractor typically has:

  • 4–6 years of full-time university education in chiropractic

  • thousands of hours in anatomy, neurology, radiology, diagnosis, and clinical skills

  • supervised patient care in teaching clinics before practising independently (chiropractic-ecu.org)

In some unregulated countries—or in weekend/manual therapy courses—the word “chiropractic” is sometimes used with only very short training. This is not the same as a full chiropractic degree and may not meet international standards for safety and competence.

What is ECCE?

The European Council on Chiropractic Education (ECCE) is an international, independent organisation set up by the chiropractic profession in Europe to accredit and re-accredit chiropractic degree programmes. Its aim is to ensure that graduates are trained as safe, competent primary-contact practitioners, using agreed educational standards. (CCE Europe)

ECCE-accredited programmes are also recognised within the Councils on Chiropractic Education International (CCEI) network, which coordinates chiropractic accreditation bodies around the world. (The Councils on Chir)

What to expect at your first visit

Your first visit at Roots is a detailed, whole-body assessment, not a quick adjustment and out the door.

We begin with your story:

  • medical and lifestyle history

  • past injuries, operations, and treatments

  • your current symptoms, triggers, and goals

Then we examine how your body is working now. This may include:

  • orthopaedic and neurological tests

  • posture and gait analysis

  • spinal and joint mobility testing

  • breathing, circulation, and basic metabolic screening

  • sport- or activity-specific assessment (for example, golf, running, lifting at work)

If anything suggests that you may need imaging or medical review (e.g. GP, neurologist, orthopaedist), we will explain why and help you arrange it.

You’ll always have space to ask questions, understand the plan, and decide whether you’re comfortable with the proposed treatment.

Safety, risks & informed consent

Chiropractic care delivered by a properly educated, accredited chiropractor has a very good safety profile.

  • The most common side-effects are mild, short-lived soreness or fatigue, similar to doing new exercises.

  • Serious complications (such as fractures or vascular events after neck manipulation) are very rare, and current evidence suggests such vascular events are not more frequent in people seeing chiropractors than in those seeing GPs for the same neck pain. (nyuhs.org)

At Roots, safety is non-negotiable:

  • We screen carefully for “red flags” before any hands-on treatment.

  • We adjust techniques to your age, bone health, medical history, and comfort level.

  • We explain possible risks and alternatives in clear language.

  • We ask for your written consent before starting care, and you can pause or change the plan at any time.

If high-velocity manipulation is not suitable for you—or you simply don’t like it—we have many other effective options, including low-force instrument techniques and joint mobilisations.

How we treat at Roots

Every session is individual, based on your body, your goals, and your preferences.

Depending on what we find, your care may include:

  • Spinal and joint adjustments
Precise manual movements to restore joint motion and reduce irritation around the nerves. Where appropriate, we use low-force methods such as the Activator instrument or gentle mobilisations if you prefer a softer style.

  • Soft-tissue and fascia work
Techniques for muscles, tendons, and fascia to relieve tightness, improve circulation, and help your nervous system relax.

  • Movement and rehabilitation
Simple, specific exercises to support your spine, hips, shoulders, and core—so improvements continue between visits and you become more resilient.

  • Lifestyle and ergonomic coaching
Practical guidance on sitting, working, sleeping, and training so you’re not constantly re-provoking the same painful areas.

We work closely with our physiotherapists, massage therapists, and movement specialists to give you integrated care within the clinic when needed.

Chiropractic, physiotherapy & other care – how it fits together

Chiropractors and physiotherapists are both evidence-based, but they specialise in slightly different areas:

  • Chiropractic
Focuses on the relationship between the spine, joints, nervous system, and overall function—using manual adjustments, joint work, and lifestyle advice.

  • Physiotherapy
Focuses on movement quality, muscle strength, soft-tissue rehabilitation, and structured exercise programmes.

At Roots Health Clinic in Prague, you don’t have to pick one. We routinely combine chiropractic, physiotherapy, massage, and targeted exercise to give you the most complete care for your situation.
